Just popping out for a pizza: The man who travelled 1,400 miles across 16 states to buy his favourite fast food

The love between a man and his favourite pizza knows no bounds - or distance for that matter.
And no one goes to greater lengths to get his favourite pizza than David Schuler, who grew up in Massachusetts but now lives in Jackson, Mississippi.
Mr Schuler claims the pizza in Mississippi is 'horrible' and that no one makes good pies quite like they do in Town Spa in his home town of Stoughton, just outside Boston.
He loves the pizzas made there so much, that he travelled 1,400 miles across the country to buy 150 frozen, vacuum-sealed pies which cost him $1,200.
And it's not the first time he has done it. In fact it took him many attempts to get the process just right.
During one of his first trips, he packed several frozen pizzas into a cooler with ice – only to have the crusts absorb the melted cubes 'like sponges', he told The Enterprise News.
Then, one year, he packed 40 frozen pizzas into a mammoth suitcase and jumped on the plane.

Storage: the pizzas were partially cooked and vacuum packed so that they would last the 24-hour journey across 16 states

But when a hurricane diverted his flight to  Alabama, Mr Schuler was forced to borrow his brother-in-law’s truck to make the unexpected four-hour car ride home. .

He quickly realised the secret to transporting the pizzas across 16 states in 24 hours, stopping only for gas and toilet breaks and munching on the few pizzas he keeps on the passenger seat for sustenance.
Restaurant manager Kerry Hughes told The Enterprise he ships pizzas as far as California and Florida, but Mr Schuler is his best out-of-state customer.
His latest haul, which included 50 cheese, 50 linguica (a lightly-spiced Portuguese sausage) and onion, and 50 pepper and onion-sprinkled pizzas is likely the largest single-person carry-out order in the restaurant’s 50-plus-year history, Mr Hughes said, and likely the greatest sign of loyalty.
He said: 'To pick up 150 pizzas to bring back home, that’s definitely a Town Spa lover. He’s definitely number one.'
Mr Schuler said: 'I just did it because I like the pizza, it had nothing to do with loyalty. If you never had it before, then you don’t understand. Everyone thinks I’m nuts.
'But you don’t know what it’s like to not be able to get a decent pizza. It's just so much better than the crap at home.'
