20-yr-old dies after 12 hours of gaming

LONDON: A 20-year-old man in Britain has died after playing video games for 12 hours, a report said.

An autopsy has revealed that Chris Staniforth, who never had any serious health problems before, actually died from a blood clot which formed as a result of marathon gaming sessions, 'The Sun' reported.

According to the British tabloid, Chris, who played on his Xbox for up to 12 hours in one go, died from the blood clot caused by deep vein thrombosis.

"Chris lived for his Xbox. When he got into a game he could play it for hours and hours on end, sometimes 12 hours in a stretch. He got sucked in playing Halo online against people from all over the world."

"I'm not for one minute blaming the manufacturer of Xbox. It isn't their fault that people use them for so long. But I want to highlight the dangers that can arise," his father, David, was quoted as saying.

In a statement, Microsoft, who manufacture the Xbox console, said, "We have always encouraged responsible game play through our education campaigns. We recommend that gamers take periodic breaks to exercise and do other things"
