Ozil bags £8m Arsenal loyalty bonus

Arsenal paid Mesut Ozil a loyalty bonus of around £8 million ($10.4m) last month despite the player having no future at the club.

Ozil was due the payment under the terms of his £350,000-a-week contract, which is believed to have been behind Arsenal's desire to move him on before last week's transfer deadline.

That, of course, did not happen, though the Gunners are saving significant sums on performance-related bonuses given the player is currently frozen out of Mikel Arteta's first-team squad.
